Where Have All the Concerts Gone?
Why is there just one lonely concert ticket sitting in my wallet and June is more than half way through? What makes this situation even worse, is the fact that the ticket is for a festival featuring Chris Daughtry, Avril Lavigne, and the only band worth going to see, Live. Before I get attacked for actually possessing a ticket for this festival, let it be known that it is a gift to my girlfriend.
Maybe it's just me, but this summer's concert series is looking very lackluster. Typically my calendar would be marked to the bone with concert dates, but this year it is the complete opposite. The only band I'm looking forward to possibly seeing is Boston, a band who doesn't even have their original singer. Around a month ago I was excited to see Yes, but as my luck would have it, they canceled their tour due to health problems with Jon Anderson.
This is truly a depressing summer. Entering the real world certainly doesn't aid my concertless depression, if anything it escalates it by making it that much more difficult to see concerts I want to see (i.e. Radiohead.) Not to mention the ridiculously high ticket prices (i.e. The Mars Volta $45 which becomes at least $60 after "service fees", whatever the hell they are.) Regardless, it appears to me that this summer is a pretty dull one for concerts, I suppose I can always sit back and relax while watching David Gilmour's Live DVD. Now that is a concert I would love to see again...

Yeah, but that's how it is almost every year. I'm not dropping my money for okay bands, unless it's super cheap. Radiohead is worth every penny, and I already told you why I'm super bummed at not being able to see them now. There is a 1% chance, but those aren't good odds. Yankee Stadium, bro. Yankee Stadium. Tailgate parties and Joba Chamberlain. The only music to hear is what you play to get there. And I'm listening to Floyd.
Mad Hatter - I usually get to Yankees Stadium once or twice a year. I haven't been there yet this year, but I probably should, so I can enjoy it while I still can.
I'm with ya....not much good out here either. You and your girl have been dating a long time, I think that's so sweet that you are taking her to hear music she likes. :)
Layla - It most definitely has been awhile, now only if she could go to see music that I like, then things would be perfect.
I feel your pain! It used to be a summer filled with concerts and now it's down to almost nothing. I went to my first show of the year last week when I saw the final U.S. show of the Iron Maiden tour. 6 months and 1 concert.....it's been a bad year.
I could go on about the price of a ticket, gas, and the time travelling to the venues but that would be cliche. I think the biggest problem is the lack of talent and excitement. I was excited to see Iron Maiden.....I'm excited to go see Billy Joel on July 3rd.....I'm going to the Judas Priest/Heaven & Hell gig on 8/15.....but there isn't much else out there.
Cruefest = boredom. Crue does a greatest hits set, same with Buckcherry, and the other three bands I have no interest in.
Rockstar Energy Drink tour = Airbourne, Black Tide, Mastodon, Dragonforce.....that's it out of a whole lineup of bands. I can't see spending the day listening to bands I can't stand to everntually hear the ones I like. It's watered down for my tastes.
I will be attending the Ted Nugent show at the end of August and the Helloween/Gamma Ray show in September but that seems like its it for the year so far. This will be the worst year for attending shows in a long time.
rhodeislandrock - I've seen two or three concerts this year, but none of which were exactly ones that I was dying to see. In fact, I happened to go to all of them for free because I knew someone who was able to get me free tickets.
The only shows I have tix for are Dave Matthews (just passed) and Motley Crue (July). I would have liked to have seen Maiden, but that didn't work out.
Still waiting for Gabriel/Hackett to join Banks/Collins/Rutherford for a REAL Genesis tour ... but it looks like it will be at least a few years before there's any chance of it.
David - A REAL Genesis tour would be incredible. I would love to hear some material from Foxtrot live.
