In conjunction with a number of other musically related blogs, here is my list of the Top 10 Albums of 2007. I believe that 2007 was an average year, there was some great material released from bands which you would expect such from, howeverI felt there was an absence of solid material coming from new bands. There were no debut albums which really caught my attention. One of the strongest debuts came from the veteran Serj Tankian. Every album on the list however, is a solid release and there were a few that I would highly recommend which didn’t quite cut the top ten. For instance Porcupine Tree’s “Fear of a Blank Planet” and Rush’s “Snakes and Arrows”.
I suppose this list is already displaying one of the winners for my awards of 07’ but there are still many other categories aside from Album of the Year. Check in Sunday for the full list of winners. Also below are a list of the many other blogs across the web which have all joined together in compiling the top albums of the year. There’s something for everyone so check them out!

Wow, we don't have any of the same choices. Still, this is an interesting list.

I liked the White Stripes CD. Queens of the stone age was okay. I checked the Smashing Pumpkins one out from the library, but just didn't get around to listening to it.
Oh no, you "forgot" to add Bruce to your list :(
Here's a question for you - what was the best concert you saw this year?
allyson - I'm not a big metal person so I guess I'm a pretty big outlier from the rest of the lists linked...
mark - I didn't like the Queens CD at first but the more I listened the more I loved it.
Layla - Hmmm... Rage Against the Machine! Runner up off the top of my head would probably be the White Stripes. What about you?
interesting list, I havent heard the album of Foo Fighters, but I have seen it in several lists, I will look for it
rahm
.
I'm very biased musically, so I think you're spot-on with Radiohead. In fact, why have a top ten? It should just read as the ten songs from the album for each spot on the list. Although the second bonus disc was very good, too. In all seriousness, QTSA should have been second. Icky Stripes are not my thing. Can't wait to get Radiohead tickets.
rahm - It's not their strongest album but I think it is worthy of making a top ten list.
Mad Hatter - I'm a big Stripes fan and really liked their newest CD. I couldn't agree any more though with the new Radiohead album, it's just phenomenal. I can't believe how they can continue to make such innovative music.
jeff,
i agree. how do they keep doing it? history shows bands get worse, not better. then again, there has never been a band like radiohead before.
I'd put Dream Theater's Systematic Chaos and Crowded House's Time on Earth(their first studio album since 1993!) to the list.
I didn't get much into other "new" albums last year.
For 2008 I'm looking forward to Steve Lukather's solo album due out next month and Bill Champlin's new album due out later this year and Chicago's Stone of Sisyphus album (originally recorded in 1993, it was shelved and has never legitimately seen the light of day in its original form-- although it's been heavily bootlegged). I believe Crowded House is also currently working on a new studio album but I'm not sure whether it's scheduled for a 2008 or 2009 release.
I just thought of one more album from 07 that was pretty good actually... Velvet Revolver's Libertad, I like it a bit more than 2004's Contraband. Your thoughts?
Perplexio - Sorry for taking so long to get back to ya. I haven't checked the comments on this post in awhile. I haven't listened to the new VR album, mainly because I didn't think Contraband was all that special. I love Scott Weiland, so maybe I'll have to finally check this one out.
