Rage Against the Machine Speech at Rock The Bells

I figured since someone stumbled upon my blog yesterday looking for the speech that Zack de la Rocha gave at Saturday's show, I would post a video of it from YouTube.

Jeff - Damn! Hard Core. Wish the rest of the song was included. Funny good ole' Fauxnews. I can't stomach watching their propaganda. I skip right on past that channel. Especially O'Reilly, man I really can't see how this guy can looking to the camera and lie with the rest of the animals.

Great find!

Peace,

- Neo

I know that we'll disagree on this ... but DAMN I find it hard to listen to this ranting. And it's not about agreeing or disagreeing with the point being made--I don't care if it's someone saying exactly what I want to hear, I don't want my concert experiences to be amateur political demagogue hours, too.

All my misgivings about RATM's commitment to cause aside, I agree with a lot of what he said, particularly about the cruelness of our society that we start wars for profit and position. I don;t know that it's anything new in world history, but that doesn't change the fact that it's wrong.

David, I partially disagree. When I got to see a non-political band, I don;t want to hear some half-baked diatribe with pop culture opinions. But RATM, even if it's only shtick, is a political band and you have to expect it. I have a hard time with them, because I don't believe them, but in this case, it's kind of like having a hard time with a band because I don't like the singer's voice. It's part of what they're selling and if it makes them hard to take, that's fine, but they'd be a different band without the politics.

Neo - I must say, I do enjoy watching O'Reilly just because he is so utterly ridiculous it's comical.

David - I understand where you are coming from. For me personally I love when an intelligent political band gives speeches like that, but when a political speech is coming from a band that has no political credibility then I can't say I really support it.

Bob - While I know your stance on Rage, I think for them to be around is very important. I don't know for a fact that they truly care about what they believe in, I know they attend many protests and things of that nature but as you said it could all just be a show. However, even if it is all just for show I think they are pushing the American youth in a positive direction. They are very knowledgeable politically so it's not like some teenybopper is spewing garbage which he/she doesn't know about. If they are able to get kids to believe that they should hold our government accountable for their actions and question authority than it's all good to me.

I agree with you that it's better than nothing, even if they only get a few people thinking. They definitely have more credibility to speek about these things than most despite my misgivings.
