"Chinese Democracy" A Guaranteed Failure

Remember sitting on the edge of your seats for months on end anticipating the release of that movie or game you are dying to see or play, and when you finally get your hands on it you can't help but feel disappointed because of all they hype you put into it. This in the end will be the fatal flaw for Guns N' Roses' (or should I say Axl Roses') new album "Chinese Democracy." For those who are not too familiar with the album, in 1994 work on it had begun and throughout these twelve years it has seen a number of recording studios, musicians, and producers. Not only has it seen all these people and places but "Chinese Democracy" has also had the the pleasure of costing an excess of $13 million. If all that sounds absurd, what makes it even crazier is the obvious fact that it still has not been released and that it has been delayed and set for release more times than one can fathom.

As I stated earlier the ultimate fate of this album has already been decided, the fact that it has received such a large amount of hype and the way Axl teases the fans with consistent and constant postponing of the album leads me to believe that it will be virtually impossible to overcome those obstacles. The only way I could see this album being a success besides in sales figures is by it being the next "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" or "Pet Sounds." The odds of that are pretty much 0.01% although it probably should be that solid after twelve years of work. Axl Rose is the man to hate in the music industry and for obvious reasons, in the end he automatically plagued this work with a cancer which has practically no hope of a cure.

From now on, when a band takes forever to record/release an album, that album should be referred to as the band's "Chinese Democracy." Congratulations, Axl, you've just created a new musical term!

Russ, that term would be the only thing musical that Axl has created in the last 12 years. I read an interview last year with a former Geffen employee. This guy talked about a time in the fall of 1998 when he and a few others were called to the studio to hear the music that had been recorded for this album. He said that all of the music had been recorded at that time, that it was good and that they just needed to do the vocals. Apparently the vocals never were recorded, most ot the line-up changed, the music was scrapped and the delay continued and still does.

Russ - Haha I really hope that would stick because I sure know I'm going to use it.

Mark - Axl is the biggest disgrace in music.

Neo - Good to hear from ya again. I don't think I could disagree with you on that one, lol.

When/if it does get released, I think I'll try to judge the music on its own merits not on the circuitous route it took from Axl Rose's imagination to the studio to the A&R guys back to the studio back to Axl's imagination, back to the studio, etc. etc.

If the music is truly good, do the circumstances behind its recording and release truly make any difference whatsoever?

Speaking of GnR... Consider G&R is touring again with Slash, Duff, and Matt... is Velvet Revolver still "together"-- I know they aren't recording/touring right now (obviously) but did they "break-up" or are they just on hiatus?

The only way it could be worth it is if it's another Appetite. And I'm with you--it won't happen.
