This post is going to propose the question, What band most surprised you in concert with their talent? Most shows I go into I am expecting a lot from and quite often the bands live up to my high expectations and often the bands don't do as well as I wished but still put on a great show. One band for me that I didn't expect to be as phenomenal as they were was The Mars Volta. I absolutely love the band and I even think they are one of the best bands around right now but boy I didn't expect to be as delighted as I was. For those who don't know the band they have a progressive sound with epic songs that even stretch past the thirty minute mark. Going into the show I was excited but not to the point as if I was going to see U2 or David Gilmour. Leaving the show I think my jaw just may have been touching the ground. Between the fantastic musical compositions and jams to the incredible stage show I was left in awe. Lead singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala does tricks with the microphone that you would probably think aren't possible, he would flip the who Mic stand in the air as if it were easy, not only his tricks with the Mic but his eccentric dancing certainly makes for a great stage presence. Now the excitement doesn't stop there but instead continues with guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, he too dances all around the stage and flips his guitar around all over the place. Hands down no band has surprised me more than The Mars Volta, with a staggeringly long setlist that I believe lasted three hours and incredible jams I must say this was one of my all time favorite shows. So once again I will pose the question, What band surprised you most with their incredible live work.

i love music and I’m going to create my own band with my friends. I just need some ideas. By the Pink music is great. Look it over.
Pink music I'm Not Dead mp3 . I found your blog very interesting and exciting. I really enjoyed it. My best wishes
I posted my answer up here. I really should keep better track of which artists I see and when! I've finally got a list going, though.
Jeff - Wow, that's tough one to answer I've been to so many shows that narrowing it down is kind of tough.
I would say that the band Live impressed me with their live (no pun intended) show. Them and Springsteen, man now there's a great live show to catch.
Peace,
- Neo
Though Question but the key word here is SURPRISED. I was not surprised at the talent of U2, Bruce, Bowie or many others....but I was surprised when (don't laugh ok) I saw Loggins & Messina's reunion tour last year. They had the most KICK ASS BAND! The drummer, the keyboardist, the guitar player - man I don't know where they found them but I would have loved it even if Kenny and Jim weren't there to sing :)
Russ - I'll have to check out your answer.
Neo - I actually was thiking about seeing live but I thought the ticket prices were rather steep so I passed on it. Although I'm not a Springsteen fan I've seen him live around ten times because I work at a concert hall in Asbury Park NJ which he plays at often. He puts on a great show to say the least.
Layla - No reason to be ashamed, there's nothing wrong with Kenny Loggins.
i've been positively surprised by many bands over the years, but none so much as finnish rock band viikate. they dress like the 50s, they groove like the 70s and they're totally unknown outside finland and would deserve to be checked out by everyone.
i've never seen the mars volta live, but i imagine it must be exhilarating. :)
Jose - Hey, nice to see a new reader. I've never heard of them but I will most certainly check them out. Thanks for the recomendation!
I remember going to see Van Halen's Monsters of rock in 1988. I was mainly there to see Metallica and they were good, but the suprise was the Scorpions who played fourth out of five bands. They came running onto the stage and tore it up for 90 minutes. By the time Van Halen came on you could tell that they didn't have a chance because the Scorpions had blown them and every other band on the bill away.
Metal Mark - I always wanted to see Metallica, and I am surprised as well that the Scorpions put on such a good show. That's rough for bands to follow great acts but that is the festival business I guess.
I was actually really impressed with Arctic Monkeys. And Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers is an excellent show.
But of course, The Verve in London was just mindblowing.
Peace.
