Favorite Album Openers

To start off I have finally done away with that old generic and boring looking header. I used my extremely small knowledge of Photoshop to come up with that new one and I bet that my lack of Photoshop skills shows, anyway that is my new header, and until I can improve my Photoshop skills you will be looking at that.

Now, today I came across a fantastic post which can be seen on Welcome to the Pond, a great blog which really engages the reader with fun questions. Today the question was what are your favorite album openers, this immediately struck a chord with me because I feel the flow of an album is so extremely crucial to a listening experience. I am going to go on and list some of my favorites.

1) Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Wish You Were Here)

2) King Crimson - 21st Century Schizoid Man (In The Court of the Crimson King)

3) U2 - Where the Streets Have No Name (The Joshua Tree)

4) Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nevermind)

5) John Lennon - Imagine (Imagine)

6) Metallica - Enter Sandman (The Black Album)

7) The Doors - Break On Through (The Doors)

8) Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness)

9) The Who - Baba O'Riley (Who's Next)

10) Black Sabbath - War Pigs (Paranoid)

I would love to give explanations for each song but I am waking up early tomorrow morning to catch low tide for surfing.

It's good to see someone rememeber King Crimson !

They were a fantastic band that has not received their due respect IMHO.

Excellent list, I snarfed it for my blog (I gave you and the original poster whose blog you snarfed it from due credit though)!

The one title consistent on all 3 lists is Baba O'Riley!

Oh, I love this too! I think I would keep several of your list: 1, 3,4, 5, 7 and 9 and add:

Sunshine of Your Love, Cream (Greatest Hits)

ThunderRoad, Springteen (Born to Run)

Black Dog, Zeppelin (IV)

and

Purple Haze, Jimi (Are You Experienced)

Cybercoder - "In The Court of the Crimson King" will always be to me the most overlooked album of all time. Also, I will link your blog to my favorites, from what I read it seems like a really good blog.

Perplexio - I need to link the other blog you have to mine, and "Baba O'Riley" really is the most classic album opener.

Layla - Great minds think alike I suppose haha. Also Purple Haze is such a good choice, maybe I should have added that on mine.

Neo - I most certainly did hang 10 today lol, there were some really nice waves today.
