3) Led Zeppelin: Stairway to Heaven

Well here we are, the most famous rock song of all time and not to mention the most famous solo of all time. Jimmy Page shows off his incredible skill best in this song. The solo is actually very similar to Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower" when regarding the chord progressions. An interesting little fact about this song is that Page actually recorded three solos and chose the one he liked best. This solo is extremley moving and always gives me goosebumps. It's usually regarded as the number one solo but I have it at number three because the next two solos are just mind blowing. Sure this is the most historic solo but I don't think it quite stands up to the next two. Does anyone want to take a guess at what the next two are? Your input would sure make the countdown a bit more fun.

Yeah, it's a good solo, but not the best ever.

I'm going to guess "Comfortably Numb" for one of the next two spots. No clue as to the other one.

Best solo? Hendrix "Star Spangled Banner" at Woodstock.

Nugent's live version of "Journey To the Center Of The Mind" (it's on a pirate I used to have till it wore out)

Fred Smyth AND Wayne Kramer on live version of MC5's "Kick Out The Jams"
