What a Show!

Ok well today I was reading Layla's Ramble On and her first concert of 2006 is going to be Peter Frampton. We all know how great of a show that will be. He's actually playing a few shows around my area in Atlantic City but $55 a ticket is a little bit above my budget right now so I decided to pull out my concert ticket stubs and tried to compile a list of my favorite shows. I'm young so obviously I won't be dating concerts back to the 70's and such although I wish I could.

U2 Vertigo Tour - May 17th, 2005 (Continental Airlines Arena)
A Perfect Circle - May 1st, 2004 (PNC Bank Arts Center)
System of a Down / The Mars Volta - August 23rd, 2005 (Continental Airlines Arena)
The Mars Volta - May 6th, 2005 (Roseland Ballroom)
Weezer - July 14th, 2005 (Borgata Hotel)
David Bowie Reality Tour - June 5th, 2004 (PNC Bank Arts Center)
The 21st Century Doors - August 23rd, 2003 (PNC Bank Arts Center)
Yes - August 27th, 2004 (PNC Bank Arts Center)
Aerosmith - I believe it was in 2002 I lost my stub for that (PNC Bank Arts Center)
Weezer - May 11th, 2005 (Roseland Ballroom)

So what were the best concerts you've seen?

I haven't been to a large variety of shows so this list will be short:

King's X/Joe Satriani/Dream Theater 9/3/02 - Tower City Amphitheatre, Cleveland, OH - I sat fourth row center for King's X set, I stood for the rest of the concert!

Pat Dailey 7/00 - Beer Barrel Saloon, Put-In-Bay, OH: Pat Dailey is just a small bar musician with a large local following in Northern Ohio. I got into his music after working a few summers at Cedar Point Amusement Park in the late 90s. He really knew how to work the crowd and made for an incredibly enjoyable evening.

Survivor/Little River Band/Chicago 6/00 - Blossom Amphitheatre, Cuyahoga Falls, OH - I've seen Chicago live 9 times now. But sharing the stage with Little River Band and Survivor made for an interesting evening.

America - 8/99 Franklin County Fair - Malone, NY: The venue was small and I felt kind of bad for the band and the fact that they were now playing county fairs, but I was happy to see them on the cheap.

Earth Wind & Fire/Chicago 6/04 - Tweeter Center, Tinley Park, IL: These 2 bands complimented each other quite well. They played a combined opening set and a combined encore set with all members of both bands for both of those sets (it looked more crowded on stage than it did in the stands) with each band doing a set of their own in the middle.

Chicago/Crosby Stills & Nash; 6/96 - Saratoga Performing Arts Center: Chicago opened for CSN. Chicago sounded great, CSN sounded terrible. The vocals were so low in the mix that you could barely understand them through all the instruments. These guys just didn't have it any more. I wish I'd have been able to have seen CSN in their prime (and with Neil Young in the mix would have been a nice bonus).

The rest of the shows were all Chicago at various venues in NY state and throughout the midwest, except for 1-- my first concert was Franki Valli & the Four Seasons. My sister dragged me to it when I was only 10. I've tried to block it out of my mind ever since.

That's a shame CSN didn't sound good, I would have really liked to see them. America is another band that I would like to see. I saw Dream Theater with Yes and they were incredible. I don't really like the vocalist but aside from that they are amazing.

James LaBrie isn't for everyone. I happen to like him, but I can certainly understand why other people don't much care for him.

America is a solid band, they make great music to chill out to. Ventura Highway will always be one of my lazy Saturday afternoon or lazy Sunday drive songs.

Chicago is a band I'd much rather have seen in their prime. I once read they performed in the then newly built chapel at my Alma Mater back in 1970. Now THAT would have been a Chicago concert worth seeing. Too bad I wasn't yet alive. The current line-up is a mere shadow of the great band they once were.

Best shows: (not in order, that's impossible and I can't remember years)

Pink Floyd - The Wall Tour
Pink Floyd - Animals Tour
U2 - Verigo Tour
David Bowie, 70's, 80;, 90', and 00's - I've see him once in each decade and MAN is it awesome to watch him change!

Michael Jackson, Bad Tour - I have to add it cause its true. I was mesmerized by his dancing, the guy may be weird but he can ENTERTAIN

Heart - because those chicks KICK ASS.

Bruce - seen him 15 times and I'd say the best was actually The Rising Tour.

Well I can't deny that Jackson would be a bad show because Man Can He Dance!
