My Ode to Gwen Stefani

Uh oh, I think I may have rekindled my love for Gwen Stefani. Well back in 1995 I bought No Doubt’s hit record “Tragic Kingdom” a bit before “Don’t Speak” became a huge hit, and I would like to thank my friend for recommending it to me. At the time it was my favorite album, and at this time I was only ten years old so my music knowledge was limited to say the least. Not only did I fall in love with No Doubt’s music but I fell in love with Gwen Stefani herself. Once I saw the “Don’t Speak” video there was no doubt that I thought she was the most beautiful person alive, she was probably my first big crush. Well yesterday I was bored and was flipping through my MP3 player and found No Doubt in there and decided why not relive those days of being 10 years old. I listened to it and it brought back such vivid memories of sitting in my room blasting it on my little boom box I had. I then decided to search online for the “Don’t Speak” video and realized that Gwen Stefani really is the most beautiful woman in the world, at least in my mind. Now I’ve grown to appreciate her even more than I did when I was younger. There is something about her that is so great; she has a wonderful voice and such a great personality. She seems so innocent but very strong minded sort of like a feminist. She also seems very cultured with the pottu on her forehead. She seems to exhibit a Marilyn Monroe look and it’s stunning. That is my ode to Gwen Stefani, so does anyone else have any opinions on who the best looking musicians are?

Sarah McLachlan is quite pretty and glamorous. She's as beautiful as her voice, that's for sure.

Dude, I kinda lost some respect for you. I put Gwen, nsync(all boy bands), american idol, Christina, Brittany Spears, Good Charlotte, Blink 182 as the people who ruined music. There are no more Dylans, and Lennon's because of these people.

I understand why you like Gwen, I like her too. SHe's her own person - down to earth AND glamourous. Hard to pull off, I've never seen anyone else do that but it's because she doesn't try - she's just herself.

I don't listen to much ND but as far as people with class that I respect she's near the top on my list.

She grew up not far from where I live so I also feel a connection to her that way...

Now, who do I think the best looking musicians are? Michael Hutchens was the best looking, Jim Morrison...I guess I like dead guys. I'll get back to you on some living people soon.

Well Gwen has certainly turned from her roots in a rather disturbing way but I feel her old stuff with No Doubt was pretty good. I'm not ever going to compare it to Dylan or Lennon but it was good stuff. Even though I don't like her music anymore I still respect her for doing what she wants to do and whatever makes her happy. We also can't blame boy bands and such for ruining the music because society is the one choosing to listen to them. They have far greater options than that they just choose pop music, and I think if we were to look at bands degrading music I would put Emo bands before pop groups because they are the ones who claim they are punk yet they are not slightly. Pop bands realize they are pop and don't try to label themselves otherwise. Bands like My Chemical Romance, New Found Glory, and Hawthorne Heights are destroying the name of punk.

Oh and Layla, I defnitely agree with Jim Morrison, even I think he's sexy, haha.

I don't think the Dylans and Lennons have gone away. They're just becoming harder to find, mostly because of MTV and the record companies' lack of promotion. I also don't think there's anything wrong with liking someone like Gwen and No Doubt. I think No Doubt is actually a very good band, musically.

There's a place in the world for all music, even the mindless pop stuff. We just have to listen to what we like and try to ignore what we don't. That's how I see things.

I agree with you exactly. Everyone has their own taste and their is great talent out there that is just not too well known, and you can't expect for a Dylan or Lennon to come around again because music evolves and it's a good thing that it does because we can't be fed the same music forever. Music is eclectic and there is something everyone can like and it is like that for a reason. No reason to have one genre of music because that's when music will go bad.

I remember having a similar reaction to Kylie Minogue's music video for The Locomotion back in 1988... There was just something about that Saucy Aussie that really got my attention.

I don't think any of us guys ever forget our first celebrity crush. And Gwen is quite a worthy one to have. :-)
